Karen is a counselor and the clinical supervisor at Priestley Mental Health. As a clinician, Karen focuses on a humanistic, solution approach. She feels the therapeutic relationship is key in helping clients identify needed change. Karen says, "I believe the client is the expert in their own lives and that my part in the therapeutic process is to help identify the knowledge already being utilized (a client-centered, strength perspective), support and educate, and aid in recognizing what's already working. Together we create goals a work to achieve them."
Karen is a clinical social worker licensed to provide counselling and psychotherapy in the state of Idaho. She is also a certified hypnotherapist through the National Guild of Hypnotists and is qualified to supervise other counsellors who are working toward their LCSW credential. Karen is an experienced mental health provider and has worked as a program manager in psychosocial rehabilitation, where she wrote treatment and service plans and provided one-on-one rehabilitation services. She has received extensive training in ethics and clinical supervision and, alongside listed credentials, has also completed certificate coursework in neuroscience for clinical practice and applying neuroscience to the treatment of trauma, anxiety, and stress disorders. Karen has a laboratory science background and, prior to working at Priestley Mental Health, worked in organic bio-chemistry.
